Reflect It's important that teachers understand that student's physical, social, emotional, and cognitive skill are still developing once they are in school and teachers should take this into account when setting up their classroom as well as the lessons and activities done in class. Student’s development skills should be taken in count when making these decisions in your classroom to provide opportunities to develop and acquire these skills. My first artifact, the motor development interview and observation, allowed me to observe the motor skills of four children ranging from a 2 1/2 months old to a 3 year old. It was incredible to see how a child's physical development changes over time and how each child's development can be different and progress differently to other children. As a teacher it's important to encourage activities that will help develop student’s motor skills especially in the younger grades. Activities that encourage students to use scissors and print capital letters are several ways to encourage students to develop their motor skills.
My second artifact consists of an observation I had to do on a child's physical development. The observation consisted of having to observe a child’s physical development in the child development lab. Observing and identifying the type of motor skill that the child was displaying through her daily activities in class really showed me how her teacher assisted on the student’s physical development throughout the day. It really gave me the opportunity to see how a student's physical development can be developed throughout the day by the students playing outside in the playground or simply by reaching and grabbing a container of blocks from the shelf in the classroom. It's important to be aware how students physical development can be encouraged and developed by simple daily tasks in the classroom as well as encouraging activities that will involve students physical development to develop as the children are.
Project These projects have helped me be more aware of how important it is as a teacher to be able to observe what your students can and can't do physically. Taking the time to observe how each student develops differently at different times allows me to understand how important it is to develop activities that encourages and develop their physical development. As teachers that we find ways and activities to encourage them to keep developing their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive skills providing with enough opportunities to socialize with their peers, ask questions that will provide them to critically think and challenge them, and provide opportunities for students to express and tell their feelings about a particular subject or idea. Providing opportunities for students to grow and develop not only is beneficial for the development of the student but also to the teacher in providing his or her students important values and development skills that will be important for them in the future
